A software engineer by trade, my passion however is birding and photography. This has evolved over the last several years. I had always "birded", sort of, when I was a child, as my parents almost always had a feeder up. When I moved to Minnesota I really started getting into birding a bit more, however the passion really evolved after a trip to Costa Rica. Seeing 263 birds in 4 1/2 days really sealed it for me. Since then I have been to Ecuador twice, Costa Rica twice and Brazil with a trip to South Africa in the works.
Photography sort of took off from birding, with modest beginnings using a digital camera and a scope to "digiscope". It evolved from there to what it is now, having purchased several Canon DSLR's, and several lenses from the 17-40 to the 400mm f/5.6L. My real passion is photographing birds in the tropics, especially hummingbirds and tanagers.
